Cynthia Kaldor (D)

1. The state of North Dakota is abundant in natural resources and ND citizens have initiative and a can-do attitude. I see opportunity for ND businesses to thrive and grow, attracting a qualified workforce and increasing our tax base.
2. I believe my vast leadership experiences in business, education, volunteer and civic organizations, and my drive to solve problems make me well qualified for the office of Tax Commissioner.
3. As I travel the state and visit with individuals, the message conveyed to me most often is that we need real property tax reform and we must address the serious infrastructure needs of our entire state, especially in the oil producing areas.
4. Our rich mineral resources are providing a significant opportunity for investment in long-term initiatives that will provide for economic growth long after the resources have been depleted. These investments should include real property tax reform, quality education, superior infrastructure, and research and development of our renewable energy resources.
5. I find social media can be an effective tool for businesses to connect with current and potential customers and it can be a fast and convenient way to keep in touch with family and friends. However, I also believe it's very important to balance the time-benefit ratio of using social media.

1. My vision is to continue growing our economy, creating good paying jobs, and expanding our tax base. This allows us to continue funding areas like education, programs for our children and seniors, infrastructure and transportation, and economic develop. We are able to continue saving for the future. Moreover, allow us to continue providing tax relief, like the more than $500M in property and income tax relief that we have delivered during the past five years.
2. My background as a senior level manager shows that I know how to achieve results. I know how to get things done. When I ran in 2006 I devoted myself to working with state and legislative leaders to deliver meaningful property tax relief to our citizens. My work is seen in tax relief.
3. The greatest challenge facing ND is the threat of uncertainty from burdensome regulations and growth-killing tax hikes from the federal government. Both have the potential of crippling businesses, derailing our robust economy, and altering the lifestyle we enjoy.
4. Our greatest opportunity is our approach to responding to challenges facing our state. As Tax Commissioner, I will do everything I can to promote certainty for our businesses. That means working hard to sustain the broad based property and income tax relief reducing the burden on our families, businesses, farmers and ranchers. We must keep tax relief in place.
5. I enjoy social media. Through Facebook and FLCKR for this re-election campaign, I am beginning to understand what a powerful it can be. It is a great way to reach out to people, network professionally and politically, and stay in touch with family and friends.
